New Role for Boss of Redcar Plant

THE boss of Corus Teesside Cast Products (TCP) at Redcar is to give up day-to-day responsibility for the plant.

Jon Bolton, who as MD fought to keep the works alive after a group of international buyers walked out on a contract last year, will instead become responsible for the steel giant's Long Products Division based in Scunthorpe.

The move is part of a wider reorganisation within Corus - now known as Tata Steel Europe - that has seen the premature departure of several senior figures in both the UK and Holland over the past six months.

Most controversial was that of Long Products director Phil Dryden, the man said to be most closely involved in talks to find a buyer for TCP, which was eventually mothballed with the loss of 1,600 jobs in February.

Mr Dryden's departure coincided with that of the head of Corus strip products, Dutch-based Marjan Oudeman - once described as the most powerful businesswoman in Holland. Just three months earlier Scott Mac-Donald, the head of distribution and building systems, also walked. …
