Help and Safety!

Article excerpt

FORMER Corus worker John Buckton has moved on from redundancy by using the skills and qualifications he gained during his 38 years in the steel industry to start a new business.

Support from UK Steel Enterprise has helped John, who lives in Redcar, to set up M-and-D Health and Safety Consultants.

"I heard about UK Steel Enterprise's new Regeneration Fund tailored to help people like me and I have had great support and advice," he said. "It was a stress-free process with a speedy decision and the pounds 2,400 I received has helped me to buy a laptop, office equipment, stationery and the professional insurance that I needed.

"At 55, I felt that I had at least 10-15 years of work in me and didn't want to waste my experience so I am very pleased with the initial response," he added.

M-and-D Safety Consultancy has clients ranging from restaurants to various small and medium sized manufacturing companies and John, a member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health and the British Safety Council, is also carrying out health and safety training for Stockton-based J D Training Solutions. …
