Byline: MOSCROP

RICHARD Hannon may field six runners as he bids for an amazing eighth success in the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury, but Ed McMahon's Temple Meads can spoil the party.

Hannon's record in this valuable race is second to none but this year his squad looks a little down on quality.

On the other hand, McMahon's youngster looks way above average if the evidence of his debut win at Newmarket is anything to go by and as he was such a bargain buy at the sales, he only has 8st 6lb on his back.

The cat was not quite out of the bag before his introduction as he could still be backed at 4-1 but given the fact that Aidan O'Brien, Saeed bin Suroor and Hannon had runners in the maiden, it still looked a pretty short price.

McMahon had him in a Listed race at Newbury 24 hours earlier, but the prospect of going for a big pot with such a light weight swayed him in this direction.

Stall one will either be the perfect draw or the worst, but his main rival, Reckless Reward, is right next to him and he could have enough.

High Standing can bounce back to form for William Haggas in the Group Three Shadwell Stakes.

Having run a cracker in last year's Sprint Cup at Haydock, connections will have been expecting big things this term.

His seasonal reappearance promised much, beating the pacy Rose Blossom without being too hard pressed in a Listed race.

Back up at the highest level in the Golden Jubilee, he finished way down the field but was drawn on the wrong side so can be forgiven that.

If Mick Channon's Gallic Star reproduces her fine effort at Royal Ascot in the Plantation Stud Stakes at Newmarket she should win. …
