MARTON Fl|p could be given a shock shot at redemption at Sunderland following Craig Gordon's latest injury setback, writes LUKE EDWARDS.

Gordon will miss the start of the season after breaking his arm in training this week, which could lead to a dramatic change in fortunes for Fl|p.

The Hungarian international is the only other goalkeeper with Premier League experience at the Stadium of Light and, despite starting the season an outcast, may get another chance to prove himself to Steve Bruce. Fl|p (pictured right) has made no secret of his desire to leave Sunderland to become a first choice goalkeeper elsewhere after falling out with Bruce last season, when Gordon was confirmed as Black Cats number one.

And, while new signing Simon Mignolet and Trevor Carson have started the season playing with the first-team squad, while Fl|p has been asked to appear for the reserves, Sunderland's assistant manager Eric Black has not ruled out a seismic shift in his position. He said: "It's a hard one to call. Craig will definitely not make the start of the season so it's one the manager and ourselves will have to discuss long and hard. "There'll be no decision taken until we take a look at the kids in Portugal. I don't imagine he'll do anything right away. "The young lads will get a half each at Darlington, but M[sz]rton played 45 minutes for the reserves on Thursday night. "The manager's talked to him about his future, although it was before this injury to Craig so whether that changes things I don't know. "He'd like to leave the club because he wants to be a number one keeper somewhere and we can understand that. "We need a bit of reflection time and so will he. Whether he thinks this is an opportunity to come in and re-establish himself, I don't know. "He's not burned his bridges, you can't afford to do that in football. …
