A GROUP of Teesside school pupils have jetted off for a life-changing experience.

The students from Eston Park School are spending two weeks in Sri Lanka where they will be involved with community work.

They have raised more than pounds 38,000 to fund the adventure.

While in Sri Lanka, the group will work in a school and nursery in the deprived Athidiya area.

The 20 teenagers are joined by teachers Jan Holliday, Katie Talbot, and youth worker Glenn Dawkins and the group will work with community workers including Sister Concepta, a nun who has committed her life to serving the poor.

They will refurbish classrooms as well as run drama, sports, English conversation, and music activities.

To raise the funds for the trip, called "Making a Difference", the group took part in activities including the Boxing Day dip, bag packs, the Three Peaks Challenge and the Lyke Wake Walk.

They also received sponsorship from local churches and the Archbishop of York and the Bishop of Whitby. …
