DEADLINE NEAR TO APPLY FOR LEADERSHIP NASSAU CLASS

Time is running out for Nassau County residents to apply for the next class of Leadership Nassau, the Amelia Island-Fernandina Beach-Yulee Chamber of Commerce's leadership development program. Application deadline for the Leadership Nassau Class of 2011 is 5 p.m. Friday.

Participants undergo an intensive, 10-month program studying the history, economy, government, environment and culture of Nassau County with the goal of developing new community leaders.

Leadership Nassau participants will attend a two-day opening retreat in August, meet all day once a month from September to April and attend key governmental meetings throughout the year. The daylong monthly classes cover a broad spectrum of issues: economic development, education, justice and law enforcement, health and social concerns, government, arts and culture, environment and recreation, and regional business.

"The goal is to give participants an in-depth look at the critical components of our community so they have a better understanding of Nassau County as a whole," said 2010 Leadership Nassau Steering Committee Chairman Dallas Hempstead.

Leadership Nassau is open to any resident of Nassau County, but will target individuals with diverse geographical and socio-economic backgrounds and seek a racial, gender and age mix reflective of the population. Cost is $650 for AIFBY Chamber members, $850 for non-members.

Applications for Leadership Nassau are available at the chamber's offices, 961687 Gateway Blvd., Suite 101G, Amelia Island, or by calling 261-3248, by e-mailing info@aifby. …
