THE local community is key to making SIRF go with a swing - and the Stockton International Riverside Festival Community Carnival is one of the event's real highlights. This year's procession -which takes place on Saturday, July 31 - will bring together more than 1,000 local people. Community involvement has been part of SIRF from the start.

The first procession was held in 1988 at the inaugural Riverside Festival - and since then it's just kept on getting bigger and better. Now in its 23rd year, the 2010 carnival has the theme I Spy.

It takes its inspiration from the great outdoors.

And the parade will explore Stockton's urban and natural environment including parks, local landmarks as well as hobbies, activities and relaxation in Stockton.

Last year's event proved a huge hit with its theme of Small Wonders, Big World - which reflected how children and young people grow and see the world around them. And the crowds were out in force, even though the sun failed to shine. …
