FARIA ALAM has confessed she still regrets her affairs with former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson and then-FA chief executive Mark Palios.

The former FA secretary, who has since fled to Canada, caused a scandal at the heart of the Football Association when the affairs were revealed in 2004. Asked if she would have done things differently, Ms Alam, 43, said: "Of course I would have! The old adage of 'if I knew then what I know now' comes to mind.

"Nevertheless, I wish I had better knowledge of handling the media and if I had moved away, it would never have come to anything like it did.

"One is never aware of just how many people who want to sell you out. So be careful how you choose your friends. But I never felt like a victim, not really. Yes, others who I trusted, were dishonest, but I guess that happens to the best of us. …
