Undefeated Greenside Retain Their League Title

Article excerpt

Junior league cricket latest GREENSIDE secured the victory necessary to end their Wellstream Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League Under-15 Division season on a high as they overpowered hosts Lintz.

The win meant they could not be caught at the top of the table.

After finishing the 2009 season in similar style by winning the Cameron Shield for the first time in their history, they have now retained the championship without losing a game.

Greenside's success came in a match which they dominated, a first-innings score of 118-6 then being followed by a Lintz slump to 27 all out and an 81-run win.

The new champions went through the season undefeated to finish three points in front of the only other unbeaten side Whickham.

Whickham's downfall proved to be their tied match two weeks ago against Sacriston, a game in which they dropped two crucial points.

Monday's final victory at home to Annfield Plain was a routine affair as they easily rubbed out Plain's effort of 73-5 to win by seven wickets.

Blaydon finished the season with a flourish as they defeated hosts Swalwell by 104 runs.

Dean Bailey hit a half-century before his compulsory retirement, and with Jordan Baines making 33 Blaydon had put the result beyond doubt by the interval with a score of 137-4. Baines then completed a top-notch allround effort with 4-5 to bowl Swalwell out for just 33 - the win ensuring Blaydon finished joint third in the final table.

Shotley Bridge ended in fifth following Burnopfield's concession of the final match, which also meant they ended up with the wooden spoon.

WINS for both Washington Raiders and Boldon CA Yellow marked them out as the teams most likely to succeed in the 3D Durham Coast Under-15 League championship stakes as the season nears its climax.

Both sides remain unbeaten heading into the final few fixtures. …
