Arrested over the Deaths of Two Men

A MAN was arrested in Cumbria yesterday and is being questioned by police after two men were found dead in a block of flats more than 150-miles away. A murder probe was launched after the bodies were discovered at the flats in Waterford Drive, Chaddesden, Derby, Derbyshire Police said.

A spokesman said officers from Cumbria arrested a 47-year-old man in Whitehaven at about 6am yesterday on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody today. The spokesman said: "Police remain at the scene carrying out house-to-house inquiries and completing forensic examinations."

Police said investigations were at an early stage and further details would be released later today.

The bodies were reported to have been found in separate flats in the same block, several days apart.

A police spokesman said officers went to a flat in Waterford Drive at 7.10pm on Sunday where they found the body of a 66-year-old man, named last night as John Matthews.

"Following a post-mortem investigation and other inquiries, police are now treating his death as suspicious and have launched a murder investigation," the spokesman said. …
