WORKING 9 to 5, what a way to make a living.

Dolly sure was on to something with these sentiments, but unfortunately, for most of us, working only this many hours seems to be out of our grasp.

Studies done recently have revealed that one in five Aussies work more than 50 hours a week Co far from the 38 or 40 hours that most of us get paid for.

So why is it that despite our "required" hours, we feel the need to work longer Co most of the time voluntarily and for free.

When it comes to the news business, overtime is part and parcel of the job.

We cannot control when news happens and have to be flexible to react when news breaks.

I signed up for that, but I also do it because it is what I love to do.

Someone asked me last week what I would be doing if I wasn't a journalist.

I still have not come up with an answer. …
