Govt Grant to Coffs Legacy for Computer Tuition

COFFS Harbour Legacy has successfully secured a government grant to launch a broadband kiosk at their Victoria Street office. The kiosk is part of the $15 million Federal Government Broadband for Seniors initiative to increase internet access for the country's senior citizen population.

The kiosk has two fully equipped computers with broadband internet access and qualified helpful trainers to assist the legacy beneficiaries with learning how to Skype and use email to help them stay in touch with family and friends, overseas and interstate.

"We have had a terrific interest and take up from our local Legacy community since the launch of the program earlier this month," Lorraine Drew, Coffs Harbour Legacy manager said.

"In the first week alone we had five bookings to take up the offer of free computer training including one 84-year-old lady who brought her own laptop with her to receive tuition."

The local Coffs Harbour Legacy Welfare Office assists more than 750 war widows and 25 children and dependants with disabilities in the Coffs Harbour region from Red Rock to Dorrigo. …
