Seniors to Square off in Tweed

KEEN evergreen players will be trading blows in the Tweed District Tennis Association's senior's tournament at Arkinstall Park this weekend.

It is the fourth year Tweed has held the competition and this year it has attracted 120 entries, from as far afield as Brisbane, Tasmania, Northern New South Wales and Canberra.

The event is supported by six local clubs a Murwillumbah, Pottsville, Kingscliff, Club Banora, Terranora and Tweed Heads. Tweed player Roslyn Hand, who has been playing tennis for more than 45 years, really enjoys the tournament.

"I play socially at Tweed but I belong to Club Banora and I have played in the competition here since it started," she said.

"It's a great event. I will play in four events a the mixed and the doubles, in the morning and also the afternoon on both days."

The competition is open to players aged 35 and over, with divisions going up in five-year increments to over-70.

There are 35 events scheduled on synthetic courts over the two days, with the most popular event being the combined ages pair which is open to those whose combined age is more than 100. …
