THE fight between Danny Green and Paul Briggs has been described as delivering a sucker punch to the boxing world by well-known Gold Coast boxer Les Sherrington.

On Wednesday night, the two prize fighters took to the ring in Perth and within a whiz-bang 29 seconds, it was all over which no doubt upset ringside fans.

Sherrington said he had 12 mates around watching the fight and they all couldn't believe what had happened.

"Obviously Danny would come out and say it was a legitimate punch to save face," he said. "It's a bad thing for boxing and Australian boxing doesn't need another black eye.

"I had been sparring with Danny just three weeks ago. If they had a good war, it would have been worth the $50 for a ticket."

It was a fight Briggs probably shouldn't have undertaken after suffering with neurological problems but the lure of a $250,000 pay packet proved too great.

The battle had to be shifted from Sydney to Perth because of Briggs' health after the New South Wales Combat Authority wouldn't allow the bout to proceed due to safety concerns. …
