Speedsters Tuning Up for Action; Tweed River Club to Host Two-Day Nev Wilson Memorial Races

TWEED Water Ski Club members will traverse through the water at top speeds when they host the Nev Wilson Memorial Races on the Tweed River in coming weeks.

About 25 years ago, the water ski club was founded by Tony Vass at Tumbulgum and then in 1995 it remerged but also relocated to Murwillumbah behind Liquorland on Tweed Valley Way.

The club has a broad spectrum of water-based activities, ranging from social skiing, wake boarding, family fun days and barefoot skiing. Each year the club is involved in a water ski race series which consists of five races at Grafton, Tweed Heads, Ballina, Coraki and Woodburn.

The Nev Wilson Memorial Races are a two-day event which will feature local skiers reaching top speeds on August 14 at Tumbulgum and on August 15 they will skim the water like bullets at Fingal.

President Brian Shepherd said the races for young people were on the Saturday and women and masters categories on the Sunday. …
