IT appears Angourie is fast becoming the breeding ground for world-class surfers.

Fresh from gaining second place at Lennox Head's under-14 boys Rusty Gromfest event, Angourie's Chris Zaffis has just one thing on his mind a becoming a world champion.

"I'd like to be a world champion one day ... follow in the footsteps of Mick Fanning," Zaffis said.

"Laurie Towner who is a big wave surfer is also one of my heroes."

The Rusty Gromfest attracted talented junior surfers from all parts of the globe including Japan, USA and Hawaii.

Zaffis was narrowly edged out in the final at Lennox by local surfer Michael Wright but according to the talented 12-year-old, making the final was a huge buzz.

"I've surfed Lennox before but never made it past the first round, so to make the final was fantastic," an excited Zaffis said.

"I made it through the rounds, the quarters and won my semi-final to make the final. …
