Saffin Hits out at Cuts to GP Clinics

PAGE MP Janelle Saffin has attacked the Coalition over its plans to axe GP super clinics.

"The Coalition leader Tony Abbott is completely out of touch if he thinks that's what the community wants," Ms Saffin said.

"He clearly doesn't understand these are facilities that regional communities are crying out for.

"In my health consultations around the electorate, health professionals and local communities have been calling for more GP super clinics.

"These super clinics are specifically designed to meet local needs, and they take pressure off four local hospitals.

"In Grafton, locals have been involved in the planning of the Grafton GP super clinic from day one, to ensure the model is one that fits what the community wants.

"The Northern Rivers General Practice Network has come to me about getting another GP super clinic in Page and I am supporting them."

Ms Saffin said in May, when the government announced funding for about 23 extra GP super clinics in the Federal Budget, the CEO of the North Coast GP Network, Chris Clarke, was on the phone straight away. …
