Feud over Tree Placing; Man Puts Neighbour in Headlock

A NEIGHBOURHOOD dispute over the placement of trees has left one man in court and the other nursing a sore head.

Howard resident Robert James Russell was placed on a good-behaviour bond when he fronted court for punching his next-door neighbour.

The 63-year-old and his neighbour had argued over trees hanging over a common boundary line at their adjoining properties.

After the verbal argument on the morning of May 29, Russell went to the victim's house and they had a fight in his driveway.

Russell placed his neighbour in a headlock and punched him with a closed fist.

The neighbour's wife also became involved and she fell over in the scuffle and suffered minor abrasions.

Russell, who had no criminal history, pleaded guilty in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm.

When police spoke to him after the incident, he told them he'd only placed his victim in a headlock after the man came at him with clenched fists. …
