MASTERCHEF may be off the stove for another year but eight Fraser Coast students and a celebrity chef are ready to fill the gourmet gap.

Hospitality students from Urangan State High School will join forces with Brisbane-based culinary star Andrew Mirosch for the Tastes of the Bay spectacular at next month's Hervey Bay Seafood Festival.

The group of aspiring chefs, cooks, waiters and waitresses from the school's Year 12 Certificate II hospitality course have been lined up to prepare, cook and serve the three courses of Tastes of the Bay.

Matching Sirromet Wines will be served with each of the wild-catch courses which include baked Hervey Bay black sesame-crusted scallops, barbecued extra-large Swains Reef garlic king prawns and oven-roasted Hervey Bay bugmeat and fried spanner crab cake.

The students will have to be on top of their game at Fisherman's Park in Urangan but with chef Damien Symes on the job they should have no problem rising to the culinary occasion and matching the mouth-watering standards of Mr Mirosch. …
