Lisa's Riding to Beat the Blues; Bike Ride Raising Depression Awareness

More than 3 million people in Australia experience depression, anxiety or related alcohol and drug problems each year.

Depression costs the Australian community over $600 million each year.

On average, every full-time employee with untreated depression costs an organisation $9665 per year.

AFTER years spent battling the dark spectre of depression, Lisa Ballin aims to give hope to others by embarking on a 570km bike ride for charity.

The nine-day ride from Yeppoon to Bundaberg aims to raise money and awareness for national depression initiative beyondblue.

"Depression and anxiety affects a large portion of the community," Ms Ballin said.

"Most of us have either experienced one form of depression, or know of people who have and or are suffering from this illness.

"I personally am one of these people who have suffered and lived with anxiety and depression and part of my strategy to maintain my sense of health and well being has been to maintain a level of fitness. …
