A MASSIVE expansion to Gatton State School has delighted parents who know the redevelopment will ensure it will be able to accommodate an increase in the town's population.

The popular primary school which caters for about 650 students will soon have a state-of-the-art multi-purpose hall, bigger library, more facilities and upgraded classrooms.

The major upgrade has been made possible through $3.2 million in government funding.

Gatton State School P&C president James Poole said the expansion meant "wonderful things" for the Lockyer Valley community.

"It's very exciting for the school. It means the children will have a completely covered area to play sport in, a place to have award presentations and parades and gives us that extra facility to hold functions any time of the day or night," Mr Poole said "There will also be an extension of the school library and an increased variety of books for the children. …
