A DRUNK driver who smashed into the rear of a woman's car while speeding 100 kilometres over the limit has been jailed for three months.

Jenny Wood, 49, was on her way home from work on September 17 last year when she turned left from Moffatt Street on to Brisbane Street a a 60kmh zone.

Seemingly out of nowhere, David Allan Tournier, 36, smashed into the back of Ms Wood's car while driving at 160kmh, ramming her car into a power pole.

Ipswich District Court heard a police officer travelling in an unmarked vehicle had only moments earlier spotted Tournier speeding and was following him.

Tournier recorded 0.149 a almost three times the legal alcohol limit.

Ms Wood spent four days in hospital with an undisplaced spine fracture which exacerbated her pre-existing back injury.

The Wulkaraka mother of two young girls has since lost her job due to her pain.

Crown Prosecutor Clayton Wallis said Tournier was drinking that day with a friend after losing his job and partner. …
