Grant Lights Way for Junior Rugby League

IPSWICH Junior Rugby League (IJRL) players will see the game in a different light next year.

The IJRL has received a $55,000 State Government grant to install new lights on a playing field at its Briggs Road headquarters.

The move means the IJRL will have two full-size fields up and running when the 2011 season kicks off next March.

IJRL chairman Brendan Bowers said the improved facilities would cater for thousands of junior players from across Ipswich.

"Our mod field will become a full-size field with improved drainage," he said.

"This will allow us to host the Queensland Rugby League State Championships in July and will provide more opportunities for junior league clubs in Ipswich.

"Our clubs keep growing every year, so we want to be in the position to provide them with the best-possible facilities."

Mr Bowers said Briggs Road Sporting Complex had been transformed in recent years. …
