RURAL crime is a significant problem on the Northern Rivers.

In an effort to tackle the issue head-on, Detective Senior Constable Mark Banfield was recentlyappointed rural crime investigator for the Richmond Local Area Command.

RLAC commander, Supt Bruce Lyons, said the role would see Det Snr Cont Banfield focused on rural crime across the region.

aIt is important that people inrural areas seek him out,a Supt Lyons said. aIf people are having problems with crimes that occur on farms they should contact him.a

Supt Lyons said rural crimesrequired specialised investigation skills.

aHe is a very competent detective and has a passion for this area of work,a he said.

Det Snr Cont Banfield will beattending saleyards around theregion in order to get to know stakeholders in the rural sector.
