THE saying goes, the pen is mightier than the sword, so perhaps art is mightier than the pen.

After concerned Andergrove residents lodged written submissions against the clearing of a section of natural bushland near the Andergrove council depot, they have put their creative minds together to create some art which showcases their fight to save the bushland.

About 35 people have expressed their concerns about the impact of the Mackay Regional Council and the Urban Land Development Authority's (ULDA) proposal to build affordable housing on the Bedford Road council depot site, saying the development would have a negative effect on the surrounding environment.

The Mackay Regional Council said the project is a partnership with the ULDA, which is reviewing submissions which have been made as part of public consultations.

While the ULDA reviews the submissions, residents who live near the park have taken it into their own hands to bring visitors to the area. …
