THICK sea fog blanketed Mackay yesterday morning causing poor visibility in some areas a but it was Brisbane's fog that had the biggest impact on our city.

Mackay police said the fog didn't cause traffic problems as no crashes were recorded. Nor was Mackay's fog thick enough to cause traffic problems in the air.

However, the fog in the state's capital caused issues at Mackay Airport, where several flights were delayed because of landing issues at Brisbane Airport.

Mackay Airport general manager Terry Simpson said QantasLink, Jetstar and Virgin Blue flights to and from Brisbane were all delayed, from 30 minutes to three hours, depending on the carrier.

Mr Simpson said many of the outbound flights were almost full as a large number of people were heading home to Brisbane after the Queensland Mining Expo (QME) wrapped up on Thursday.

Mt Bassett weather station manager John McIlwham said visibility in Mackay was as low as 100 metres in some areas due to fog that was originating all the way from New Zealand. …
