BUILDING the bridge to a better life can start anytime; it's only a matter of choosing the right foundation, according to one of the country's best-known athletes.

Olympic swimming champion Lisa Curry was in town visiting five schools, as well as the Gladstone Gladiators Swimming Club to talk about health and fitness.

"I was talking to the kids about the importance of staying fit and healthy, exercising and eating the right things," Ms Curry said.

The former Olympian's visit was to promote the Botanic to Bridge.

Ms Curry said she wanted kids to talk to their parents about the need for a quality diet.

"Kids can only eat what the parents buy and cook them," she said, adding that fruit, vegetables and protein were essential, as well as watching fat and sugar.

"One of the things I talked to the kids about being fit, was they might have to depend on themselves, because mum and dad are busy," she said.

When she heard about the Botanic to Bridge, Ms Curry immediately thought it was a most worthy initiative. …
