Saint-Germain, Paris. Where do you stay in London?

When my grandmother was alive, I used to stay at her house in Chelsea. For a long time she was my only reason to go to London. But since her death in 2004, I don't know where to stay any more. I've tried hotels but it's just not the same.

What was the last play you saw in London?

I went to see Wicked with my daughter Alice, who's seven. It was fun because everything is fun when I'm with my daughter.

What advice would you give a tourist?

Take a taxi to Buckingham Palace, the Changing of the Guard, the London Eye, the Tate, London Zoo, the London Dungeon, and then go to a play.

when was Which shops do you rely on?

Tabio, a Japanese sock shop on the King's Road. I go to Brora for jumpers for my children and it's wonderful for babies, too. I stock up on things I can't get in Paris, like Twiglets for my sister [Lou Doillon], Crunchies, Flakes and Marmite. In the run-up to Christmas I go to Partridges in Sloane Square to get cranberry sauce and great cheeses.

What's the best meal you've had in London?

I love the Yorkshire pudding and old-fashioned British cooking at Rules in Covent Garden.

What's your earliest London memory?

Going from my grandparents' house on Old Church Street to my mother's house on Cheyne Row and being frightened by my parents pretending there was a bear behind the gate. It's a scary memory.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Ashtanga yoga.

What's your life philosophy?

Be as curious as you can.

What was the last song you downloaded?

'Surfin' Bird' by The Trashmen.

What would you save from a fire?

I once saved my baby sister Lou from a fire when I was 12. There was a fire in the kitchen and she was forgotten and I brought her out. There was no great danger, but my mother thought it was so brave and was very proud of me.

I'm touring in France and around Europe, performing material from my latest album IRM, which was produced by Beck. …
