Relay for Life

EMERALD: The Central Highlands town of Emerald was recognised as hosting one of the fastest-growing Relay For Life events in Queensland, at the recent Queensland Relay For Life Awards.

The 2009 Central Highlands Relay For Life received the 2009 Outstanding Growth Award for having the highest-growth funds raised at the event last year.

Good results

ANAKIE: Police in Anakie have commended motorists after pleasing results from Random Breath Tests (RBT) conducted as part of Operation Cold Snap over the weekend.

Police said of 85 RBTs, not a single one was returned positive.

Tidiest town

TIERI: The mining town Tieri has been named Central Queensland's Tidiest Town at the 2010 Ergon Energy regional awards.

Among the 11 outstanding achievement awards announced, Emerald took out the Environmental Protection and RACQ Litter Prevention awards, but lost its Friendliest Town mantle to Capella. Springsure took the Partnerships Award, while Rolleston and Taroom shared the Australia Post Bush Spirit Award. …
