Bungle in Council's Quarterly Water Bills; Revised Notices Being Sent

MORE than 1700 home owners might have been sent the wrong water bill, Rockhampton Regional Council confessed yesterday.

It's the latest bungle in a series to plague the authority and its water subsidiary Fitzroy River Water (FRW) since a switch to quarterly usage bills.

This time human error is being blamed for the stuff-up.

The council says bills sent to ratepayers in Cooee Bay, Taranganba, parts of Yeppoon and Barmaryee are potentially too low because the date for the start of the billing period was incorrect.

It says 1708 properties are in Sector 23, where the mistakes have been spotted, but not all homes will be affected.

Amended notices will be issued tomorrow and revised due dates will apply.

A spokesman for the council said if people had already paid, the amount would appear as a credit on their new bill.

"Ratepayers can either wait for the amended notices to arrive, or if they choose, we will accept payments on the original account. …
