THE Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Capricorn Coast Local Ambulance Committee (LAC) is keen to attract new volunteer members.

A special meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 28, at 7pm at Yeppoon Ambulance Station, 16 McBean Street, Yeppoon to bring existing members together and to open the door for new volunteers.

Members of the community who are interested in joining the LAC are encouraged to attend.

Rockhampton QAS area director Steve Coombs said the work of the LAC provided many benefits to the area, one being a greater bond between the community and QAS.

"The LAC helps foster greater ties between the community and the QAS. They work to promote community participation in and awareness of ambulance services," he said.

"They also work to raise funds to buy new pieces of equipment by organising fundraising activities within their community, for the benefit of their community.

"As well as fundraising, LACs also manage donations, bequests and money held in trust for the benefit of ambulance services or they might be involved with programs such as CPR for Life or other public education programs, so there is quite a variety of a responsibility within each committee. …
