Zumba Your Way to Raising Funds for Medical Research

Article excerpt

ROCKHAMPTON sisters Krystal Carpenter and Jess Davis want you to shake it for charity.

The sister act have teamed up together to raise money for medical research through a fun charity fitness class.

It's all part of Krystal's latest challenge to raise funds for medical research as an entrant in the Lions Medical Research Personality Quest.

And Jess was only too happy to help as the city's new Zumba instructor.

When Rockhampton-Mount Archer Lions called for nominations for the Lions Medical Research Personality Quest, Krystal was happy to put her hand up.

She's got between now and May next year to raise money through events such as raffles, cent sales, a baby show and Christmas Fair.

But her latest is a Zumba class on Tuesday, August 3, from which all proceeds will go to the charity.

The sisters thought a Zumba class would be an ideal fundraiser as both the Zumba and Medical Research promote healthy living.

"I haven't set a fundraising target, but every little bit helps, particularly as it is going towards Lions Medical Research. They do a huge amount of research and work in the peri-natal ward at the Royal Women's in Brisbane and when you see those tiny, tiny babies and how the teams there save their lives and help them to grow, it is amazing,a Krystal said.

Head to the Zumba class at 6pm at the Vicki Davis Academy of Dance and Performing Arts Studio in Alma Lane. Cost is $10.
