Lifesavers on Dry Land; Mudjimba Clubbies Do Their Bit for Planet

THE main focus of the Mudjimba Surf Life Saving Club has always been on saving lives in the surf and enhancing the life skills of their members.

Now members are turning that attention back on to the life that supports us a trees.

On August 1, as part of Planet Ark's National Tree Day, club members and volunteers from the community aim to plant 800 trees in the dunes around Mudjimba Beach.

Bubbly 16-year-old Sammy Burns has taken on the momentous task of organising the tree planting day after finding out about the event online.

"I was trying to find a new way to get everyone together," the volunteer surf lifesaver said.

The community has thrown its support behind the event, including students from Pacific Paradise Primary School and members of the surf club.

Sponsor Ken Mills Toyota has also invited its local customers to join in.

All are welcome to take part in the tree planting, which starts at 9am at the surf club on Mudjimba Esplanade and finishes at noon. …
