Nicola Refuses to Dog It; Animal Fan Pedals Throughthe Pain

NICOLA Brandner was not expected to finish last month's Noosa Century 100km bike ride after she took a tumble early on, but she had plenty of good reasons to get back on her bike.

The keen athlete and animal lover had decided to use her ride as a fundraiser for the Sippy Creek Animal Refuge.

Although she had landed heavily on the road on her knee and it was paining her badly to pedal, Nicola was determined not to let down her supporters and the volunteers and animals at the refuge.

"At the start, I thought, a[approximately]I'm not going to be able to do it', but I thought I had to get it done. There were so many people relying on me. I had to get it done," she said.

Nicola not only finished the race, but anxious to make up for the time lost in her tumble, and a late start, she shaved an hour and 10 minutes off her previous best to finish the ride in just under four hours. …
