A GOOD neighbour chased and nabbed a burglar caught redhanded rifling through a Tyneside flat.

When the raid victims came home around lunchtime, they were shocked to see Stephen Anderson come out of a bedroom and run past them. The victims gave chase and were joined by two neighbours who had seen the commotion.

One of the neighbours managed to catch up with the 54-year-old thief and bravely detained him until police arrived, Newcastle Crown Court heard.

Locking up Anderson for two years, Judge Esmond Faulks told him: "You were busy taking items from the flat when the occupiers came back.

"There was then a confrontation that led to an oldfashioned pursuit.

"You have clearly let yourself down big time, you are 54 and too old for this sort of game."

The victims had left their flat at Hunters Court, Gosforth, around 10.30am in June and came back about three hours later.

They noticed damage to a door frame and suddenly Anderson appeared from a bedroom and rushed past the householders. …
