THE ROSALIE Gallery has achieved record sales during its current exhibition Journey a[pounds sterling] Back to the Future by Sunshine Coast artist Don Milner.

Five paintings valued at over $8000 have been sold including a local sale of Mr Milner's prize-winning portrait, Magus, which won the National Portrait Painting Competition prize in 2008.

"I first met a[approximately]Magus' in 2006 when I was a visitor to the Medieval Tournament at the Abbey near Caboolture," Mr Milner said.

"I was immediately taken with his appearance and costume which was the period dress befitting the time period he was representing as a re-enactor.

"However he seemed to be more than just a costume.

"In fact he exuded a spiritual presence which was enriched by the strong depth of character he bore.

"The only indicator of time was in the dress of the people standing by his forge."

Magus (aka Graham Cross) is a metallurgy, calligrapher, wood carver and book binder who sells his wares to the throngs of interested visitors to the Medieval Tournament. …
