LEYBURN is full of action once again as residents prepare for the 15th Leyburn Sprints on a flash new track with concrete barriers.

In 23 days the country town will be overrun with rev heads anticipating higher speeds on the new track and greater interest with no threat of stone damage.

The $100,000 smooth hot-mix bitumen donated by the Southern Downs Regional Council (SDRC) and Boral Asphalt was laid early this month after there were complaints about loose gravel last year.

One hundred concrete barriers donated by RoadTek will ensure a cost efficient future for the event as the committee will save over $23,000 in hiring.

Leyburn Sprints Committee member Amanda Young was hard at work varnishing the hotly sort after slate trophies when the Daily News visited Leyburn yesterday.

"All the winners will have a little piece of Leyburn to take home with them," she said while coating more than 50 rocks.

Her father and assistant treasurer and secretary David Young said the drivers after these trophies owned cars worth half a million dollars. …
