McLean's Farewell in Home City He Loved

Article excerpt

LOYAL Ipswich sportsman Jeff McLean would have been humble thinking about all the attention he received over the weekend.

McLean's passing gained extensive coverage in newspapers, on radio, Facebook and on TV.

The Wallabies wore black armbands in Saturday night's Bledisloe Cup game to honour the former winger who played 13 Tests for Australia from 1971-74.

McLean, 62, died peacefully in Ipswich Hospital about 11.20am on Friday.

His family later received calls from around the world, including California and Singapore.

His funeral is at 10.30am on Wednesday at St Mary's Catholic Church, Ipswich.

A wake is planned afterwards at the Ipswich Turf Club and the Coronation Hotel.

McLean's closeknit family spent much of the weekend together, trying to come to terms with the loss of one of Ipswich's best known sporting achievers.
