MUCH as I enjoy the warmer months, I am not relishing the thought of returning to weekly lawn mowing and, this year, it seems like it might come way too soon.

It's not even half way through August and I've already had to get the old clunker out twice in three weeks.

This is not promising.

In fact, it is close to depressing.

One of the things I look forward to about winter is a reprieve from the lawn, but this year the break was depressingly short a unlike the grass and clover. In mid May I had already started to dream of weekends free of the ritual push around the perimeter only to find unseasonably warm days and frequent showers kept the soil moist and warm, and the grass growing.

So, each week or second week, out would come the mower in the hope it would be the last time for winter only to be disappointed within days. …
