ALEX Somlyay and Peter Slipper were back-to-back, bonded in ink and on the same page Co for just one day.

The two Sunshine Coast Federal MPs began pre-polling across the Sunshine Coast on Monday on the same "how to vote" election pamphlet.

One day later Co after Mr Slipper's exorbitant expenses made front page news Co the pre-voting pamphlets mysteriously changed, with Mr Slipper and Mr Somlyay each appearing on their own sheet of paper.

Labor candidate for Fairfax Dan McIntyre said he had heard from a member of the Liberal Party that the decision was made to change to separate sheets as "people were tearing (the sheet) in half because they disliked one of the candidates on the form".

Mr Somlyay denied he wanted to distance himself from Mr Slipper.

"It was confusing to people (to be on the same sheet)," he said. "We are from two separate electorates."

Mr Somlyay said the taxpayer-funded cost of the printing change was "negligible" as the sheets had merely been run off on a copier. …
