HE'S an eight-year-old who hasn't won for more than a year but an interstate trip beckons for Fulmonti if he's successful at Doomben tomorrow.

Fulmonti, who hasn't won since claiming the Group Two Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast in May last year, will be on trial for next month's Group Three Newcastle Cup (2300m) in the Woolworths Handicap (1615m).

Trainer Chris Jordan dismissed the age factor as a reason to prevent Fulmonti heading south.

"He's as sound as a bell and has no problems apart from the normal wear and tear you'd expect from any eight-year-old," Jordan said.

"I'll see how he goes on Saturday but if he runs well I'm sending him down for the Newcastle Cup and a couple of the lead-up races.

"He hasn't won this time in but he's been very unlucky on a couple of occasions.''

Jordan singled out Fulmonti's performance when eighth to Crossthestart in the Group Two Brisbane Cup (2400m) at Eagle Farm in June as one example of how luck went against him during the winter carnival. …
