BLISS N Eso say knocking Eminem off the top spot on the ARIA albums chart is a victory for Australian hip hop.

The Sydney rap trio's latest record Running On Air debuted at number one this week to end Eminem's six-week run at the summit.

"It's funny how it worked out, because Eminem is a goliath of an artist and the most recognised hip hop star in the world," Jonathan Notley, aka Bliss, said.

"But getting to number one is more of an achievement for Australian hip hop than just us.

"It's been such a battle over the years to get homegrown hip hop recognised by the industry at large, so it's great it has finally come to fruition."

Bliss N Eso barely had time to celebrate when they discovered their third album had debuted at the top of the charts.

"We had a show in Perth the next day so we couldn't go too crazy," Notley explained.

"We mentioned it at the end of the gig and thanked everyone for buying the record and supporting us and they went nuts. …
