CURRUMBIN MP Jann Stuckey has come on board to rally residents against Labor's marine park plans.

Ms Stuckey urged Tweed and Gold Coast residents to join the Friends of Fishing rally at the Jack Evans Boat Harbour tomorrow.

She said the Environment Protection Minister Peter Garrett's refusal to reveal plans that would include 30 per cent of Australian fishing waters being ruled off-limits, was a major issue for the federal election.

"Every man, woman and child who fishes should be at the rally," Ms Stuckey said.

"Community consultation is needed with stakeholders both sides of the border because a large percentage of jobs, revenue and tourism come from fishing associated activities upon which the general economy is dependent.

"If the recommendations in the report go ahead after the election an entire industry in certain locations will be decimated."

Tweed fishing charter owner John Ede said Labor needed to consult stakeholders before going ahead with any plan for ano takea marine zones. …
