Speed Limit Cut on Killer Stretch

A KILLER stretch of road on the Sunshine Coast will have its speed limit cut to 80kmh due to public pressure.

From today, the 2.5 kilometre section of Cooroy Noosa Road between Sunrise Road intersection and Griffith Avenue will be reduced from 100kmh until at least the end of the year.

The Tinbeerwah stretch has claimed four lives, three of them teenagers, in less than a year.

The speed limit news comes as the person police allege was responsible for two of those deaths, 19-year-old Nathan Palmer, fronts Maroochydore Magistrates Court this morning.

A Department of Transport spokesman said the speed limit on the 2.5km stretch was dropped in response to community concerns.

Transport and Main Roads North Coast regional director Dennis Tennant said the dec-ison would help to reduce the number and severity of crashes in the area.

He said Transport and Main Roads and police had worked closely to bring down the speed limit. …
