AN overwhelming majority of submissions on council's draft open space strategy has supported the establishment of a regional skate park.

The draft strategy was on public exhibition from March 25 until June 4, 2010. A total of 3366 submissions were received Co 1116 during the consultation period and a further 2250 after the closure date. Of the total, 2348 were in support of developing a regional skate park.

"The establishment of a regional skate park was one of the many suggestions for new or improved leisure facilities contained in the draft strategy," said Coffs Harbour Mayor, Councillor Keith Rhoades.

"So it's good to see that it's an idea that has local backing. Council is now looking forward to seeing a detailed report that provides clear options on the most suitable location and how such a facility will be funded."

Another issue, which generated most of the remainder of submissions, concerned the possible disposal of a number of parcels of land currently classified for community use throughout the Coffs Harbour area. …
