SEAHAM Park captain Mike McNicholas hailed Sunday''s breathtaking one-run Frank Lees Rose Bowl win over Boldon CA as "the best game of cricket I have played in by a country mile".

For Park it was a first senior League Cup win and came as a great relief to the player who has been leading the team for the last seven seasons.

McNicholas said: "It is great to have that particular monkey off our backs and hopefully it will be the start of a period of sustained success for the club.

"We made 180, which was not really a big score on such a fastscoring ground as Ryhope. Our openers did a great job, but a lowerorder collapse meant we did not make as many as hoped.

"However, we then bowled and fielded superbly. All our bowlers did really well, although they were 60-0 at one time before we dragged it back."

Park, who play at heavilydepleted Silksworth tomorrow, know their league chances rely entirely on a collapse in form by both Boldon CA and Bill Quay, although the leading pair clash tomorrow. …
