Slipper Expense Claims Outrage Coast Residents

THE public has reacted angrily to revelations Sunshine Coast MP Peter Slipper ran up more than $6000 in taxi fares and ComCar charges during a 15-day period last year.

The Daily's story yesterday saw our website bombarded with comments, including calls for changes to the system under which politicians operate.

"Disgustinga, adisgracefula and aa jokea were just some of the words used by readers to describe the MP's transport claims.

The spending also rankled the likes of Coast pensioner Selwyn Carberry, who said he adid not carea for it.

"Politicians should be able to do better than that," the long-serving member of the Caloundra City Ratepayers and Residents Association said.

"It's certainly a lot of money to be spending on taxi fares and I don't really care for it at all, especially as a pensioner.

"There's no doubt the money should be going into other areas where it could benefit taxpayers."

On the Daily's website yesterday, Skippy from Tanawha said: "Sleeper would claim for the air that he breathes if he could work out how to do it a[approximately]within the guidelines'. …
