TOON stars Leon Best and Dan Gosling delighted footballing youngsters at a fun day for the blind.

The Magpies players dropped into the event at Blue Flames Sporting Club in Benton, North Tyneside, for a surprise visit.

And the pair said they were amazed at the skills shown by the young footballers, who are aged 11 to 16 and overcome their blindness to play to the game using expert communication skills.

Striker Best said: "We had a great afternoon, it was a pleasure to meet them all.

"Dan and I were really impressed with the skills on show and it's clear to see how passionate about the game these young people are. It's a fantastic initiative that we are happy to support." The event was organised by the Newcastle United Foundation as part of its new Disability Football initiative for young soccer stars around the North East.
