Man Loses Speed Fight; Driver Claims Limits Have Been Set Just to Confuse People

A MAN who claimed the Moore Park Road speed limits were set "just to confuse the crap out of people" fought a speeding fine in court yesterday.

Gregory Neil Bahnsen was accused of driving at 101kmh in an 80kmh zone on June 30, 2009, on Moore Park Road near Goorburrum.

Bundaberg Police Sergeant Paul Sullivan said he was on speed-detection duty on the day when he saw a Volkswagen van that appeared to be speeding about 4.30pm.

When it entered his radar zone, he found it was doing 100kmh and increased to 101kmh.

Bahnsen represented himself in Bundaberg Magistrates Court and alleged three other cars had been in the radar zone at the time of the offence. He said he was positive he was doing the speed limit.

In an evidence recording of Sgt Sullivan and Bahnsen's exchange from the incident, the defendant is heard saying the speed limits went from "80 to 100, 80 to 100. I assume that's just to confuse the crap out of all the drivers out there. …
