DEPUTY leader Wayne Swan made a last-minute dash to Mackay yesterday to spruik his party's Dawson candidate, Mike Brunker.

With less than 24 hours until voters were due to go to the polls, Mr Swan visited the city to urge Dawson voters to put Mr Brunker first on their ballot papers.

C[pounds sterling]Mike Brunker is a serious candidate for national parliament in this very important election,C[yen] he said.

C[pounds sterling]Growing areas like Dawson need strong, effective representatives in national parliament. Representatives who can deliver a Gillard-Labor Government.C[yen]

Mr Swan also took the opportunity to slam Mr Brunker's opponent, George Christensen of the LNP, for C[pounds sterling]misleadingC[yen] the public about funding to rejuvenate the main street of Airlie Beach.

C[pounds sterling]The Liberal candidate had promised $15 million for the Airlie Beach main street redevelopment and he's been forced to admit that it is completely unfunded,C[yen] he said. …
